Concert in Riga Castle

Event location Riga Castle
Date 06.12.2026
Time 15:00
Description: The concert programme includes excerpts from the sacred work “Gloria” in D major (RV 589) by the Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi – the composer’s most famous and popular piece of sacred music. Vivaldi composed this work in Venice around 1715 for the choir and orchestra of the “Ospedale della Piet?”, an orphanage for girls and a music school. The concert will also feature music by the early English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, songs by Valdis Zilveris from the production “Journey to the Christmas Star” and the “Winter Festival Cantata”, created in collaboration with conductor Andrejs Jansons and the New York Latvian Choir, which he lead. The programme also includes excerpts from Kārlis Skalbe’s childhood recollections of Christmas. See additional info
